Mission Statement: Partners for Sustainable Schools works to integrate sustainability in all aspects of K-12 education in Lane County, providing young people with opportunities to develop life skills that build wonder, hope, and vision.
Partnerships: Working in partnership with local government, non-profit organizations, businesses, higher education groups, and dynamic individuals, we develop programs, coordinate projects, and establish connections that help provide schools with information, curriculum, activities, and resources for promoting and modeling sustainability in all facets of their operations, both inside and outside the classroom.
History of ISEE / PSS
The Institute for Sustainability Education and Ecology (ISEE), under the name of "Partners for Sustainable Schools" (PSS), leads projects that provide resources and information about sustainability. We focus on creating learning situations that promote "green" activities and hands-on projects.
ISEE was formed in 1997 and originally named the "Institute for Sustainable and Ethical Economics," which focused on promoting sustainable business practices, and provided consulting services to local entrepreneurs about sustainability. In January 2008, the organization changed its name to reflect a new mission of promoting sustainability education, with a particular emphasis on working with K-12 schools. The Partners for Sustainable Schools "DBA" name was added to make it clear to schools what we do.
ISEE also sponsors PolicyInteractive, a nonpartisan, interdisciplinary team of researchers working to understand general public opinions about global climate change and how it may influence our future.
